In 2007, Jenkins became a part of the Gun Trace Task Force (GTTF) to catch suspected criminals with big supplies of guns and drugs. The new unit consisted of plain-clothed officers and was created with a motive to reduce the increasing murder rate in the city.

However, during their operations, Jenkins along with his seven other team members started taking advantage of their positions and in a bid to earn money, started planting evidence, taking money from the homes they invaded, and even started reselling the drugs which they seized back onto the streets.
