Stephanie Allain was born in New Orleans she was African-American father Dr. Charles Allain, is a biochemist & her mother Gwen Allain Miller is an educator.
She started her film career in 1985 at Creative Artist Agency, first as a script reader, then as a staff reader.
During her expiration at Columbia, Allain work with several young filmakers including John Singleton, Darnell martin. Allain pesonally pitched to Columbia's excutives Singleton's Boyz n the Hood (1991).
The controversial film would become a critical & commerical super hit, garnering /Singleton two academy award nomination.
During the film under her supervision were Poetic Justice (1993), I Like It Like That (1994), & The Craft (1996).
Allain is currently married to Stephen Bray, who is the composer & lyricist of the Brodway version of the Alice Walker book The Colour Purple. Stephanie has three children.
